Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called for national unity and the need to move beyond past conflicts to build a prosperous Nepal. Speaking at the launch of the book "Dwanda Patrakarita ko Ek Dashak" (A Decade of Conflict Journalism) by journalist Dirgharaj Upadhyay on Friday, Deuba highlighted the importance of sustainable peace and the creation of an inclusive society.

The 154-page book, published by Sangam Books, offers an in-depth exploration of Nepal’s decade-long armed conflict, with chapters such as "Disrupted Assembly of Maoist" and "The Attack on Deuba." Deuba, who also served as Prime Minister, emphasized that the current government is working to create a society free from fear, underscoring the importance of refining the constitution to reflect the diverse sentiments of all communities.

Deuba praised the recent endorsement of the Truth and Reconciliation Bill as a significant milestone in managing and institutionalizing the achievements of Nepal’s peace process. He also recognized the critical role of national and international cooperation in establishing peace following the conflict.

CPN (UML) Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta reflected on the Maoist-led armed conflict as a struggle for political change and justice, while NC leader Nain Singh Mahar highlighted the book's value as a resource for understanding Nepal's conflict history.

Journalists Kunda Dixit and Babita Basnet commended Upadhyay's book as a powerful example of peace journalism, noting that it provides a comprehensive historical account of the conflict, capturing the experiences and struggles of those involved.
